A Love Note to: RMS Beauty

This post is part of a series called “A Love Note to”, on brands I enjoy shopping and from which I own multiple products.

RMS Beauty is by far one of my favorite green beauty brands. Rose-Marie Swift, celebrity makeup artist, created RMS Beauty after she experienced health problems related to her work. The brand strives to use only the highest quality ingredients – ones that are “full spectrum, bio available and nutrient complex” and certified organic. I love that all of the brand’s cream products (save the new palettes) come in recyclable frosted glass pots, which look simple and beautiful.
When I first started looking into greening up by beauty routine, RMS Beauty was one of the first names that came up. Living Luminizer is one of the brand’s cult-favorites, loved by conventional and green beauty enthusiasts alike. Sephora recently started carrying the brand’s colour cosmetics on their website, which signals to me that RMS Beauty will only keep getting more popular.
The first product that I picked up was “Un” Coverup in shade 11. It’s a creamy concealer/foundation hybrid that melts into skin. I use this on days where I’m going for a no-makeup look – it’s great for covering up areas of redness without having to apply it to your entire face. It’s not great for covering up individual blemishes, so I like to go in with a standard concealer over top if need be. Because “Un” Coverup is coconut oil based, it feels very hydrating – a bonus for me, but may be a drawback for people with oilier skin. I find it similar to Kjaer Weis’ cream foundation, albeit slightly stiffer in the pot. I apply with fingers or a dense, synthetic foundation brush.

My second and third products were the Contour Bronze and Nail Polish in the shade Luminizer, which is meant to be the same shade as the above-mentioned highlighter. I use a little of the Contour Bronze under my cheekbones and around my forehead when I want a more dramatic makeup look. It has some shimmer, but the shade is ashy enough to look natural as contour. The brand also offers a warmer shade called Buriti Bronze for those who are looking for a more traditional tan colour. The polish is a pretty, sheer shade that’s easy to apply. The wear time didn’t blow me away, but I think it’s a fair trade-off considering how good the ingredients are. With a shade this light, it’s hard to see a little chipping anyway.
My most recent acquisition was the powder Swift Shadow in shade GR-19 Garden Rose, which is an absolutely beautiful pinky-mauve shade. I used it in a recent tutorial, so click here to see it in action!

Besides the products, another thing that is really like about RMS Beauty is their authenticity and values. I highly suggest following them on Instagram if you don’t already. There, in addition to beautiful product shots, they also post thought-provoking quotes and images questioning the beauty and food industries. It’s refreshing to see a brand that does not shy away from promoting their values, even if some people inevitably won’t agree. From a business perspective, I understand the desire to want to please everyone – less politics equals more potential consumers, but RMS’s feed is a nice break from this norm.
I am both sad and excited to say that I was the first one to break the No-Buy when I ordered the brand new Signature Set in Mod Collection. It’s absolutely not a necessity for me, but you get to try 5 different products (Buriti Bronze, Magic Luminizer, two Lip-to-Cheeks in Beloved and Demure, and Vanilla Lip & Skin Balm) for significantly less money than buying the products separately. Of course you get less product than you would in a glass pot, but I seem to have a hard time finishing things up anyway. There’s also a 15% discount available if you register for the brand’s newsletter, which I put towards the palette!
